Beware of scams: Protect yourself from fraudulent messages

At Diversifying Group, we're committed to your safety and security. We would like to ask our candidates to beware of a current scam that targets job seekers. Fraudsters may reach out to you impersonating consultants with job opportunities or offers in order to get your personal information or request payment. It's crucial to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of any messages you receive.

Recruitment scams are not always obvious. Here are a few tips on how to identify a fraudulent message:

  • It’s from an unknown phone number, country code or email address.

  • It contains a link; these may contain malware that could be installed on your device so avoid clicking on these.

  • It contains sudden requests for payment or pressure to act quickly.

  • It contains poor spelling and/or grammar.

  • It contains unrealistic salary or working arrangements - if it’s too good to be true it probably is.

For your safety, we strongly advise:

  • Do not respond to these messages.

  • Do not share any personal information, banking details, or make any payments requested through these messages.

  • Report the scam message to your local authorities or the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) through their official website for further investigation.

At Diversifying Group, we might contact you by text message, however:

  • Initial contact will usually be via an email address containing @diversifying.com or via LinkedIn.

  • We never send job offers or requests for personal information via text message to individuals who have not registered with our agency.

  • We will never ask a candidate to pay fees as part of the recruitment process.

  • We have an office phone number on our website, so you can give us a call if you’re not sure of anything.

Stay alert and safeguard yourself against fraudulent activity. If you have any doubts or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly using the contact details below:

Diversity Lens - Issue 179

It's been a truly wild week on social media. If you're at all online, you'll know what I'm talking about...
The stepson of a passenger on the missing submarine has got everyone's attention, Elon Musk is trying to ban the word cisgender, and to top it all off, we're not even speaking about Musk and Zuckerberg agreeing to a cage fight ?  We cover some of this in this week's Diversity Lens, and don't forget to scroll to the bottom for job opportunities with inclusive employers.

QUICK FIRE NEWS ?

LET'S GET INTO IT

Is your manager impacting your mental health

According to a study by The Workforce Institute at UKG, almost 70% of people say their manager affects their mental health just as much as their partner, as reported by Vice.

We spend a lot of our time at work (perhaps more time than with our partners), so it’s no surprise that if we’re stressed out by work, or the people there, it can negatively impact our lives.

What are people doing about it?

People aren’t as willing to stay in jobs which make them unhappy. According to a study by PwC, a quarter of workers are looking to change their jobs this year.

Sarah Moore, head of people and organisation at PwC, said:
“It’s clear that workplace dissatisfaction looms large, with pay, workload and overall fulfilment at the top of employees’ minds.”

Now more than ever, people are looking for employers who prioritise wellbeing, flexible working and career progression, so organisations who offer this are more likely to reap the benefits of employee loyalty.

People are comparing the missing Titanic submarine to refugees at sea

On Sunday, a tourist submersible went missing during a dive to Titanic's wreck. Contact was lost with the five people on board who are now tragically assumed dead, including a British billionaire. Tickets for this 8-day trip cost £195,000.

What's not in the news?

While this mesmerising story is front page news, last week a boat that held 800 refugees sank off the Greek coast. Hundreds are feared dead, including many children. Consider the different way the media and authorities have treated both cases, and which you have heard about the most.

Demand non-policing solutions to youth violence

Liberty Human Rights are campaigning for better funded youth services and a rolling back of police powers. The misguided approach of giving police more power has been used to target vulnerable youth - this is punishing rather than helping and breeds inequality.
Call for a new approach to tackling serious youth violence.

Elon Musk thinks "cis" is a slur

Musk, owner of Twitter, has said anyone using the term could be suspended from the social media site.

What does it mean?
"Cis" or "cisgender" simply means that your gender identity aligns with what was assigned to you at birth.

Why is he wrong?
The term was coined by Dana Defosse in 1993 and added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2015. "It exists, and it has meaning in how we operate in the world,” says Defosse. The term is important and necessary when discussing gender identity. The discomfort around "cisgender" is mostly down, we'd argue, to those who believe cisgender people are the 'normal' ones and rooted in transphobia.
